Not everyone is welcome to this new polder . The uniform organisation of the landscape reflects the pursuit of an ideal agricultural society. We can see a segmentation into standard farmland parcels, with the main town of Emmeloord in the middle and a ring of ten regularly dispersed villages surrounding it. The government chose the new inhabitants for this agricultural paradise according to professional ability, religion and socially desirable behaviour. It was the ultimate expression of faith in the makeable society.
