Bibliotheek Universiteit van Amsterdam

Where the space starts and ends is barely visible, so the hall makes an overwhelming impression. The university’s students and professors would have been bathed in bright light and scintillating colours; precisely what Van Doesburg and Van Eesteren, the founding fathers of De Stijl architecture, had in mind. They wanted to get rid of the static, architectural structure and offer a dynamic vitality in return.
