Designers: Jacob Berend Bakema and Johannes Hendrik van den Broek
How far can you go as a designer? What are the limitations to increases in scale, and where is the human scale most seriously under threat? Like Jaap Bakema, some architects deliberately take it as far as possible. In this urban development study he interlinks infrastructure and architecture to produce a mega-structure. It is one of the most drastic proposals to be submitted for an actual assignment during the 1950s. This unexecuted study for repeatable residential units in the polder influenced other post-war residential districts nevertheless.
