Design variants for the Zigzag and Folding Chair

The Zigzag Chair is an international design classic. Rietveld executed the initial models in cardboard in the early 1930s. He tested out different versions of the back, seat, ‘leg’ and base in the zigzag form in a minuscule format about five centimetres high. He also experimented with various materials and joints. These handmade test models provide evidence of a radical departure from the traditional chair with four legs.
