Client: Gemeente Stuttgart en Deutsche Werkbund
Designers: Jacobus Johannes Pieter Oud
In the 1920s, numerous providers of social housing visited the Weissenhofsiedlung, a model residential district in Stuttgart, to see the latest ideas for themselves. At that time the ‘minimum dwelling’ was a pivotal idea: quality housing for people with a low income. J.J.P. Oud had a considerable reputation to uphold in the field of social-sector housing. The kitchen he designed for his model home incorporated several innovations, aimed primarily at providing a logical and efficient workspace for the housewife while she prepares food.
