Client: E. Plate
Designers: Jacobus Johannes Pieter Oud
He felt maligned, attacked and misunderstood. Critics accused him of working traditionally. With this design for a house, J.J.P. Oud distanced himself from that criticism. He wanted to show that he was still the master of Functionalist architecture, and demonstrated its principles in a pure way: in the generous projections for shade from the sun, large windows for plenty of light and the efficient use of the floor area. The sobriety of functionalism is expressed in rectangular forms, primary colours and the absence of decoration. Oud showed that he was still a modernist.
