‘Bijlmermeer: The City of Tomorrow’ was the 1960s slogan that expresses the faith in the makeability of the Bijlmermeer.
High-rise construction within uninterrupted green parks, separated streams of traffic, covered parking and local amenities close to home. Here a new, better world was created all at once, intended for Amsterdam residents from disadvantaged 19th-century neighbourhoods. This scale model convincingly emanates the optimism of the sixties.
